Hear me out on this:

What would really happen when AI takes over our Instagram feed and Google search completely. What if it takes over Youtube? What if we have our own agents to manage shopping on Amazon and Flipkart and Blinkit and BookMyShow? 

Would these websites and apps even need to maintain user-friendly interfaces or just one which can manage the Personal shopper AI agent load better? Would these websites stop being pretty and enticing? What about Ads?

I am digressing, that’s not what I want to talk to you about. Let’s start over again.

Imagine Meta AI completely takes over Instagram. All influencers create their digital twins – they use them to the extent that they don’t ever have to shoot another reel in their lives. Their twins are so realistic in tone and texture and look and feel, their backgrounds real and gritty – that they can just milk them and scale them for god knows how many posts and stories and reels. For one, their output would be far better – if they were posting a reel a day before, now they can do 10 or even more. They would have tools which identify trends across the platform, and their digital twin can generate a reel without even involving the influencer in planning, thinking or execution – she might be sleeping or on her vacation, while her digital avatar would take care of everything.

Imagine such a scenario. Content supply would really, really explode in such a case. It would become 10 fold, even 100 or 1000. Instagram would become a self-replicating organic beast. Hundreds of thousands of reels would show up in your feed replicating a trend and a tune to the T. Just like cancer cells. 

Let me ask you a simple question – if you are a casual user of Instagram living in such a day and age – wouldn’t you be bored – watching the same content over and over again? 

Also would the human population ever grow to the same extent as the content supply would?  

Demand for content would be lower than the supply. And nowhere it would be felt as dearly as at its core currency: follower counts and likes. 

With content exploding with the help of AI, influencers would be hard-pressed to grab your attention. At that point in time, a young start-up founder would think of a brilliant idea: what if we chucked AI and created a platform where humans can have genuine connection with each other? Please predict the valuation of such a unique start-up.

Similarly, what would happen if all the articles that come up on a simple Google search are written by AI? Would Gemini then be trained on articles written by Gemini? Or would they chuck Search altogether – as what’s the point of having news sites and blogs and camera shots cataloged for www when AI can simply generate it all?

You see where I am going with this, right? If not in professional lives, but at least in our personal lives – we would long be bored of AI. Humans would soon crave for genuine insight into the human psyche. AI may become smarter and more efficient than a human, it may even become conscious of its own existence – but it may never become a human. 

Our humanity is our formula of coke. Protect it, trademark it, guard it. It will be our last stand against the rise of machines.
