On the creation of the universe

He had to catch that deer. He panted for his breath with one hand resting on the trunk of a huge banyan tree.

He growled, scratching his head. He twitched his nose, trying to find the scent. His stomach rumbled. Suddenly he sensed something, and he ran forward in that direction. He ran past the groves of trees with perfect agility. His limbs striding across at larger paces, his hands countering any obstacle arising in his path, his eyes darting here and there where his nose seem to take, his forehead beaded in perspiration. Sensing the nearness of the catch, he slowed down his speed.

He could make out the yellow of the deer. It was grazing on a pasture of grass. He would have to wait for the perfect moment, he could not let go of him.

The deer seemed unconcerned at all about what was going on behind him. He bent on his knees and assumed a crouching position. He tried to approach as silently as his nearly flat legs could allow. Now he could clearly make out the whole frame of the deer. His stomach rumbled with hunger. The deer seemed to sense him. It began to dart forward. Before the deer could do something, he roared his throaty roar, and flung himself bodily on the deer.

The deer stumbled back, with an impact. He groped tightly for the deer’s body, but it continued slipping due to the hairs on its body. The deer jerked in fright. It began to frantically kick its legs. It was a solid blow on his stomach. He yelped back in pain. The deer tried to get up.

No, he was hungry.

He winced as he tried to steel himself and once again jumped on the deer. The deer was ready for him. He struck out his antlers on him. One of them passed through his arms, piercing the skin. He roared in pain. Angrily he sunk his teeth into the face of deer, its bony face could not provide for much of flesh, but the warm blood seemed to cull him. The deer bleated as its eyes were being eaten into. It jerked and pushed. His hands constantly kept on slipping; he was dependent on his teeth for grip. He tried to grasp something to choke the life out of it. He got something solid; he drove it deep into the deer’s stomach as it cried in extreme pain. He could see that the deer was losing the hold of his life. He dug the sharp stone deeper.

The deer cried in mundane finality of its life, it shook for few seconds then lay dead.

He had killed it.

He stood up watching his dead catch. He seemed transfixed by the blood pouring out of the guts; he jumped on it and ate the food with great content. But some sort of unique thing nagged on his brain. Never before had he felt something like that. Something stood on his forehead.

He had killed it.

                                                     *******************

He dumped the rest of carcass of the floor, where his two brothers looked hungrily at what their brother had brought for them. They immediately started squabbling about it. He grunted. They looked in his direction, and then silently divided it between themselves.

He had killed it. Couldn’t that deer be successful in killing him?

He looked at his brothers, being playfully with each other.

He suddenly felt tired. He went to sleep.

                                                    ********************

He opened his eyes. He choked.

What is this?

He looked around uncertainly. He could not grasp his surrounding.

He convulsed.

It felt bad, very bad.

What was all this?

He then looked down on where he was sleeping. Some different body was shaking.

Should it attack him? He didn’t know. He did not feel at all certain.

It was a horrible sensation. He did not feel as certain as he was before.

Was he certain before?

He did not want to see all these things, it felt bad, terribly bad to see all those things. Suddenly everything became black around him. Oh, he could block them.

It felt good.

Then he felt bored with doing so. He wished to see those strange things once again. He wished it to exist.

Suddenly, the world came back.

He has created the world back.

He let this piece of information sink into his mind. He has created the world back.

He was the creator of this whole world!

He had created them.

He then suddenly turned around. Everything was being created as he turned around. He was creating the world.

As he kept on creating around, he saw that whatever he was creating was not same, it was different things. At one point he saw that some things he created were of bright things, one that made him cover his eyes with the wonder of his own creation. He felt that he should create more of such things. He moved towards it.

He came out of the darkness into the sunlight.

He could not grasp the sheer beauty of his own creation.

He knew it was being created at the same time as he saw them. Some of his creations were moving very far and above him. One of his creations was extremely vast, and it was moving, it wanted to come towards him.

“Come my daughter, come towards me.” He told it.

Then it suddenly became shy and receded backwards. Then it once again tried to come towards him.

He felt it extremely odd.

An offspring who wants to meet him should actually come directly, not shy away.

He observed that it was in quandary. He resolved that he himself would go.

He went towards it.

As he went near it he observed minute things moving to and fro on the earth from the top of the mighty immovable giants. Well, they were cute.

His feet touched his daughter. It was soothing experience for his feet; he suddenly began to shake with delight. He began to go deeper and deeper. It made him feel happy. It was somewhat blue in colour. He suddenly felt an impulse to drink it. He dug his mouth into it.

Yuk, it was bitter. Yet he felt that he already knew something before he was born. He already knew that this would taste not so good. But he doubted it. He doubted himself.

Once before also he had doubted himself. He decided not to doubt himself as he himself was their creator, so it must be that he already knows their property.

But he felt that he also knew a place where he would get sweet tasting fluid.

Wow, he was creating world which were not even in his vision.

He was creating the world out of his mind.

He felt himself higher than his creations. He felt himself to be their God, the superior being. He was Brahma, their originator.

                                                       *******************

He wanted to understand his own interaction with the world around. For that he had to have children who could have children.

Not like those four one who failed to do his bidding.

Any ways he was getting the answers. Some of the creatures looked exactly like him. He saw his own reflection in the sweet non moving reservoir of fluid. He now came to know that he came from the navel of one of them, whom he called the father.

Father of the creator?

He was the same one who in that dark cave was breathing up and down. He was beginning to understand the normal life around him. The cave he resided was dark, with no light.

It resembled something like the large slithery thing called snake.

Now he had ten of the sons ready to do his task, but they were demanding something, which he could not understand as their speech was so monosyllabic. He knew that his sons were stupid, but he was slowly trying to educate them.

He could not understand their demand; they described some sort of creature which could stir up extreme happiness. But he could think of no such thing. He tried to create it out of his mind, but it proved extremely difficult for him. Then he came across his creation, as it passed by him hurriedly.

It was as if she has split from him.

He looked at her transfixed. Now he understood their description.

He ran after her. So did his sons.

Note:-

According to Vedic scriptures, God Brahma does not create the world; he simply makes all the creatures aware about it. Awareness leads to discovery. Discovery is creation.

When a baby is born, his lessons in consciousness are gradual. But in the myths it is mentioned that He comes to know the world abruptly. So in course of evolution, consciousness can be abrupt. Guided by only his before the creation animalistic instinct and his constant questioning, he came in terms with the surrounding around. In the process he came to feel that he has created the universe by his mind. What he did when he created the world was simply seeing through his eyes, the phenomena going around in the world. And he may not have rose from the navel of Vishnu, they might be sleeping close with one another sharing their body heat, to save themselves from cold.

In the beginning,

There was neither Being nor Non-Being

Neither sky, earth, nor what is beyond and beneath.

What existed? For whom?

Was there water?

Death, immortality?

Night, day?

Whatever there was, there must have been one

The primal one (God?)

Self created, self sustained, by his own heat,

Unaware of himself

Until there was desire to know himself.

That desire is the first seed of the mind, say seers

Binding Non-Being with Being.

What was above and what was below?

Seed or soil?

Who knows?

Who really knows?

Even the gods came later.

Perhaps only the primal beings know.

Perhaps not.
