This ain’t a love story, not by a far shot! It is selfish, convenient, greedy and the kind that destroys everything in its path. And when that “love story” ended with their lives, peace and normalcy were restored! I would say to Heathcliff and Catherine, good bye and good riddance!
The girl chose convenience, the boy – greed and vengeance. They were responsible for the grief of many, solace of none. Their love story was like a candle, that didn’t kindle anyone’s heart but burned down houses.
A word about passion – it is overrated! Passion doesn’t mean true love. They might have loved each other passionately, but their love wasn’t true and it definitely wasn’t genuine.
Linton comes across as the only sane character and a gentle soul. His love was more subdued and like a soothing balm – one that chose understanding and empathy over burning rage and violent outpourings.
I interpret this book as a brilliant mockery of passionate love! This one is dark, and knowing my sunny disposition, I didn’t like it overmuch.
