Wild Justice- Wilbur Smith

When you get swashbuckling, nonstop action, what more can you want?!!!!!

Wilbur Smith’s ‘Wild Justice’ is everything that a hard core action buff would slaver on! I might have mentioned once or twice that I tread cautiously while reading one of the authors whom I haven’t come across. But Wilbur Smith emerges as a good pick, and judging by the present novel, I would definitely try his other ones.

I had a James Bond-ey type feeling while reading this novel, most particularly the book made me remember the Daniel Craig starrer ‘Quantum of Solace’. It was almost a sort of Déjà vu, because both of them depicted a large and well-functioning international terrorist organization which had its base in almost all the countries of the world, and its agenda was, most certainly, world dominion.

But the back cover was slightly misleading. What I inferred on first reading it was that the 480 odd-paged book revolved simply around the hijacking of a plane. But what I actually discovered, while reading the book was that it was just a part of the book!!! Having got used to movies based entirely on Hijacking, this book came as a welcome change as it boasted of more than just laying the plane, its passengers and governments hostage to the demands of political fanatics.

The protagonist Peter Stride, the commander of the Thor Command, an Anti-Terrorist Offensive unit, comes as a hard hitting, strong and a forceful personality who though a well disciplined soldier has an independent streak. Magda Altmann, Baroness and an astute business woman heading a gigantic industrial conglomerate comes as a super sexy, sharp, incisive and a secretive better-half of Peter. The fight between the two, when they are pitched opposite each other comes out as the best part of this book.

Most of the book involves the head-hunting of the elusive Caliph, who is the leader of the terrorist organization which is surfacing as a prime backer of almost every major kidnapping, killing or bombing across all the hotbeds in the world.

Hunting Caliph down becomes an enervating experience for Peter and he finds that more than his life is at stake!!!!

In short, if you are a sort of guy who likes Alistair McCain, you may definitely like this book.

I must say that the end wasn’t so palatable. Nor does the concept of Wild Justice, in a free society like ours, inspires me much.

But all in all, this book was a perfect entertainer…………
