It has been ages and I haven’t grabbed my hands on any of the recent fiction releases. Exams were hovering over my mind and I had postponed writing reviews of the four space adventures which I have read prior to it. Though, the public fascination (and the publishers who reject my stories!!) with impractical space adventures is over, mine has just begun. The seed has been sown. All I have to do is to wait for my brain to sprout new, crazy ideas which may bring joy to you.
Well, reading Star Trek- Next Generation ‘The Romulan Prize’ by Simon Hawke had brought with it the sheer immensity of the above adjective. It is a piece par excellence, and we get to see the ultimate stand-off between Captain Picard of Enterprise and the Romulan Captain Valak.Enterprise and its crew are hostages- playing pawns on the command of the formidable Valak. Hidden in the electronic maelstrom ofEnterprise database lies the secret of a quarantined, so-alleged Federation Base near the neutral zone. Valak sets out to explore the possibility and Captain Picard has to forcibly tug along.
The plot begins to sizzle when the planet turns out not to be a planet but a planet size ship! It’s an ultimate romantic space fiction. If you have like-minded thinking, then you would love this book.
Next on the list is another of the Star Trek books- but this one is the Kirk-Spock Saga as they set out in the primordial Earth, when dinosaurs ruled the roost. Star Trek- First Frontier by Diane Carey and Dr. James I. Kirkland is all you need for an action packed weekend. This book is created amid such scientific speculation- what if dinosaurs had evolved minds? An ancient species of Dinosauriods set out to avenge for the anguishes met out to them (only in their minds of course), and they set on course to rectify the reason of their oblivion.
Someone during the Jurassic Period captured the intelligent dinosaurs and dropped them on an altogether different planet in order to save them from the wrath of the asteroid which had set its eyes (trajectory!) on earth. Now these dinosaurs go back in time- hell bent to destroy the asteroid, which results into non-existence of Human Species. With no humans, there is no Federation. Klingons and Romulans are hell bent to fight to the finish with Jihadist War techniques and tractor beams. Vulcans are house arrested on their own planet and every other micro intelligent species destroyed by the two warring sides. Amidst them, surviving a freak incident and the time-turning moment,Enterprisefinds its way in this sans Human Universe. They are of course not able to contact home base and they decide to explore this radio silence. When they find themselves in the never land which replaced Earth, they begin to explore the possibility that someone had just used a time machine to alter its course! Spock and Kirk decide to investigate and know just the right planet to begin their search with. On a place that they have been before, they find themselves in front of a rocky computer which takes you to all possible worlds in deep time and deep space. Someone had altered the Earth history and the landing party involving the two space stalwarts set forth through the portal to rectify it. It’s a fight between laser beams versus sharp canines, an era when T-rex was in its prime. Only the fittest will survive. Faced against gigantic odds is Captain Spock who is waging a personal battle against the scorpion poison inside his body, Commander Cool Spock- who is at his rationalist best and a very distressed McCoy, who can’t bear his Captain’s agony which may result in his untimely death. Bingo Combination!
Now this one is one of those action packed thrillers that you like to plod along and continue reading without once looking at the time.
Hope you find these reviews useful, I would review other two books next time, till then adios!!
